What would Clement do?

A Labour blog that witters on about Clement Attlee. Hurrah for The Major!

D Mili quits the frontline…

Earlier today David Miliband put an end to speculation as to his political future. Now as a member of the left of Labour, I will go on record as saying I am sorry to see him go. David has had an extraordinary run at the top of Labour politics since 1997, both as an advisor and an MP. He was a competent Foreign Secretary, and can be an inspiring speaker. His relative youth means that his return to the frontline should not be a problem.

Unlike some of his supporters, he has decided that it is time to move on, and to give brother Ed his chance. I welcome his constructive attitude to the media pressure of the last few days, and wish him well.

NOW COULD ALL THE “NEW LABOUR” WHISPERERS PLEASE SHUT UP, AND UNITE BEHIND HIS BROTHER, SO WE CAN WIN IN 2015????

  1. Think you could be right about the Media circus. would be interesting if Mum had any input into David’s decision.
Lets hope we can all get behind Ed now. Interesting that this time in opposition, the divisive carping is coming not from the Left, but from the Right of the party.
A “tightly-knit group of politically motivated men” perhaps?

  2. I thought you’ve summed it up in the nutshell. I’ve just posted something simialr myself.

The amount of interest the media was paying to everything he said and did would have made his participation in the shadow cabinet almost impossible. If he had decided to stay, every single speech or press conference would have been filled with questions about his relationship with Ed and speculation about his leadership ambitions. Hopefully his actions will help draw a line under the matter.
